Welcome! I’m Lindsey Sherwin and I’m a Drama and Performance Coach and Expressive Arts therapist based in New York, NY who specializes in working with youth, adolescents, young adults, and families as well as creative professionals (artists, actors, and entrepreneurs with careers in the arts and entertainment.
I graduated from University College London in the Arts and Humanities followed by Birkbeck, University of London in Applied Sociology and later went on to receive a certification in drama and performance therapy in addition to working towards her registration as a board certified expressive arts therapist through the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association.
Throughout my training and professional career, I have worked in a variety of both clinical and non-clinical settings with adolescent clients, young adults, and families which include foster care agencies, respite programs, residential group homes, outpatient community mental health facilities, youth recreational centers, government institutions working with victims of crime which includes the Office of the District Attorney of Bronx County, and developed as well as directed programs within the NYC Department of Education (drama therapy and and restorative practices).
Additionally, I have gained post-graduate training in psychology and theatre performance and multiple trainings on trauma and resilience-focused approaches having trained and practiced Functional Family Therapy at NY Foundling Hospital, Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care to the treatment of youth in the child welfare system, the justice system, and their families.
I have extensive experience specializing in working with youth with relational challenges and neurodiversity, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress as a therapeutic expressive arts therapist.
I am the founder of Create Your Shift, an expressive arts relational resilience model and training company committed to supporting youth and young adults, parents, as well as artist clients across the age spectrum in New York City and internationally virtually as well in-person.
My perspective of the therapeutic process is rooted in the consistent development and nurturing of the therapeutic alliance built on trust, mutuality, acceptance and cultural empathy. I utilize evidence-informed approaches infused with the expressive arts to help clients identify their strengths and internal resources to grow and embrace their identities as well as to explore them through the creative and performance process as well as the expressive therapies. In my work as a drama and expressive arts therapist,
I also utilize restorative practices and body based work to address the unhealed or unexpressed parts that often go unnoticed.
In my work with clients, healing is discovered through the inside-out.
In addition to providing creative arts-based therapeutic services, I am specially trained in facilitating workshops, presentations, and trainings on various topics such as:
- Healing through the Expressive Arts for Teens and Young adults
- Resilience and Parenting Skills (Child-Parent Relationships)
- Creative Arts and Identity Development
- Entrepreneurship and Wellness
I am available for individual and family services. If you would like group services, I am also available to discuss teen workshops and professional trainings for your organization or facility.
Feel free to browse my portfolio of work and reach out if you are interested in discussing how I can best support you.
I look forward to creating with you and helping you, your child, and family!
